Electronic filing is mandatory in Utah State District Courts for all matters. Self-represented litigants are exempt from eFiling requirements and may file either electronically or physically. All eFiling in Utah is completed using a certified electronic filing service provider (EFSP) like InfoTrack that interfaces between the filer and the court.
Basics of eFiling in Utah
At the time of this writing, only licensed Utah attorneys can file and must register in CORIS, Utah’s court case management system, with their state bar number. Any attorneys admitted pro hac vice must submit filing through the local attorney of record on the case.
In Utah, case numbers in CORIS may not be unique. The combination of the case number and the court location is crucial for eFiling. Ensure that case initiations and subsequent filings include both the case number and the court location details.
Any sensitive personal information should be properly redacted from eFilings. Otherwise, it may be available publicly on the internet. Proper redaction is the sole responsibility of the eFiler. The court clerk will not review documents for exposed confidential data. All filers should review judicial privacy rules and applicable court rules before submitting documents.
